Demystified Hair Myths

Posted by: jessicajames on: December 31, 2008

Myths are not at all a new concept which exists in our world. Its presence could be seen since a long time back. Every aspects of our life carry some myths which make us confused and mystified about the aspect. Almost all of us have some knowledge about a few myths. There are many people who don’t accept those myths to be a myth or falsehood as their belief lies on it. They not just have faith in it but try to influence others as well so that the total number of its follower grows more. As I’ve said, myths are related with many aspects of life, so it is present in the case of our human beauty as well.

 myth

There is hardly any woman who doesn’t want to look beautiful and attractive. Hair is one of the crucial factors of women’s beauty and so; most of the ladies take a lot of care about this precious feature. There are many ladies who although are highly modern and does not believe in traditional myths, however, when it comes on their beauty, they feel it right to believe on those myths related with the good looks. This is because they don’t want to lose their beauty at any cost and can do anything to save it for a long time. This thinking is leading many women to have a strong believe on all such beauty myths. Same is in the case of hair as well. There are many myths related to the human hair which is making a strong hold on most of the people’s mind. However, if you consult any professional hair expert, you would find that the factors related to the hair, on which you believed since a long time, was nothing but a ‘myth’. Here are some of the popular hair myths which have been demystified by several hair specialists.

MYTH 1- If one grey hair is plucked, it generates a number of grey hair

TRUTH - It is true that hair plucking is not all a healthy act for the scalp and could arise several hair problems like hair loss, etc. However, it is totally a myth that plucking one grey hair generates several other grey hair on its place. It is possible that when one grey hair is replaced could generate another grey hair on its place but not more than that.

MYTH 2- Everyday wash makes the hair dry

TRUTH- This is a popular myth about hair care which is followed by most of the ladies. I think they just want to save their shampoo and for this they have given a rise to this myth. The total number of hair wash completely depends on the type of the hair. Oily hair type requires more wash than dry hair as it becomes dirty and sticky very easily.

MYTH 3- Every artificial hair color causes a great damage to the hair

TRUTH-  These days there are lots of hair skin friendly colors available in the market which not only adds a beautiful radiance to the hair but also make it more healthy and shining. However, before selecting any hair color, it is suggested to consult a hair specialist.

So ladies, stop believing on all such beauty myths which restricts you to be acquainted with the truth and start living in the world of reality.

Moral Values of Life

Posted by: jessicajames on: November 17, 2008

“Morality is not a ritualistic obedience to a code of behavior imposed by an external authority.  It is rather a healthy habit pattern that you have consciously and voluntarily chosen to impose upon yourself because you recognize its superiority to your present behavior.”

The word is ‘moral’ but I firstly want to know from this whole world, do they know the meaning of ‘moral’? I think the answer would be ’No’.

A line or a sensible sentence cannot necessarily be the answer. It is true. Want to find an answer? Leave living selfish lives, start giving little- little benefits to your surroundings. I do not mean to say that you should change yourself in a moment. You can’t, but you should gradually develop the habit of going deep.

Imagine, when you get a good thrashing from your parents, you don’t feel like talking to them. You want to run away. But just think, if you hit a dog on the road with a stone, it is going to tell you that how bad it felt about it. You can share your feelings with your friends at least. But no one is there for the dog. How can it take revenge?

If you concentrate, your life is full of luxury. You are comfortable. You are lucky enough to sit on a chair in a sophisticated society and have bed to comfort your body; companions to share yourself; delicious foods to satisfy your hunger. But as far as animals are concerned, they got nothing of that sort. Hey, I do not want to bore you because these sorts of things are considered to be boring today. You have got voice by god’s grace. Do you see many people in the world using their tongue sweetly? No, it is a bitter fact. People changing are changing their lifestyle and adopting western culture. But the western culture never says to leave kindness behind, become intolerant about anything, don’t respect elders, parents, teachers, your helpful brothers and sisters. Beat animals, tease the younger ones, abuse the poor as they are not of your standard, etc. Never, never and I repeat again never. No culture teaches you this, neither any religion. Only we, the people of this sweet and vast world are destroying one another.

We human beings are torturing and forcing one another to behave in a rash manner. Conduct an imaginary survey of yourself as an object and see, if anything tragic happens with you, what would you do? If you can get badly hurt then why not others can get the same? Behave in such a manner with others as you want them to behave with you.

If you conduct yourself in a proper manner, the Almighty will reward you one day or the other.

You are blessed with marvelous gifts, your brain in your head and your heart in your chest. You can define brain and heart. Use them well.

Someone has truly said that “when you sleep, you dream life as a beauty, but when you awake, take it up as a duty.” Remember, be humble kind, sweet, sophisticated, generous, helpful, friendly, punctual and responsible to others in life. Give a chance to yourself to become a good person, a person with moral values and ethics. It will take time but it is not impossible.

Here are some quotes about morality which shows the right way to lead a meaningful life.

“The moral imperative of life is to live a life that detracts not at all from the lives available to those who will follow us into this world.”- Don Richardson

“True compassion is more than throwing a coin to a beggar.  It demands of our humanity that if we live in a society that produces beggars, we are morally commanded to restructure that society”- Martin Luther King Jr

“Would you live with ease? Do what you ought, not what you please.”- Benjamin Franklin

Our Developing World

Posted by: jessicajames on: November 1, 2008

It is indeed a tragedy of modern human thoughts that development is viewed in terms of cars, costly furniture, modern houses, liberty without restraint or in short; enjoyment of physical amenities. There is length and breadth in general appreciation of complex human affairs but depth is diminished to such an extent that three dimensional view of life is blurred. It would not be an exaggeration of harsh reality that philosophical structure of human thought is not a building with strong foundation but a weak pack of cards unable to provide stability to developing thought process which is essential for the progress to occur in right direction.

The spiritual dimension has been removed from figure of life these days. The temporary matter seems to have conquered the entire reflection mechanism of ideas, mercilessly removing the immortality of spirit which is clearly proved by short life span of human being but long lived great works (for instance, the Herculean task accomplished by Mahatma Gandhi); that can give new vigor.

The rich section of society is reckless, careless and thoughtless of the great sufferings of those whose idea of removing himself from the shackles of poverty has become an empty dream.

Everyone says that per capita income is improving, telecommunication facility has tremendously developed with vast expansion in use of internet and the media coverage has been continuously showing an upward trend. Well, I appreciate these changes. But I am surprised to find that the society has almost ignored the mathematical expression of ‘limits’ whose practical application can be ignored only at one’s peril. All human creations are imperfect, therefore its drawbacks must be noted and serious efforts should be made to remove it. The irrational way of interfering with private matters, adopting mean method of gaining popularity and profit making even at cost of misleading the energy youth, has to be done away with.

We will have to assure that the moral aspects of life are not eroded from mainstream of life. This, while on one hand, we must de- limit our material aspirations and on the other, we should seek, understand and adopt the philosophical approach to life, representing the great danger involved in accepting the sole supremacy of materialism.

No doubt, we need to abolish poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and other economic miseries; but at the same time wage war against the great empire of hypocrisy which seems to have established its sovereignty everywhere. The entire life needs to be re-structured and thin but strong thread be created which would link the various cultural values and resist the tensions produced by heterogeneous nature of life and withstand the hard circumstances created by ever testing time.

To conclude, I must say that spiritualism and materialism are two integral components of organic human philosophical system. The development of all round aspects of humanity without any of these two can be conceived in utopia but not in our pragmatic world.

Are Boarding Schools a perfect place for the children to grow?

Posted by: jessicajames on: October 23, 2008

A new trend has been observed among the upper middle class of the society since the past decade. This emerging trend is to send their children to boarding schools at an age as early as five years. Sending the children to boarding schools has now become a status symbol. Earlier it was only those parents who were wealthy but did not have time for their children, were sending the children to boarding schools. But now, children from middle class families are even sent off to these schools.

Parents prefer to send their children to boarding schools because being away from home makes the children self dependant. They develop confidence in themselves to do things without anyone’s help. It is the self confidence which helps them to face the difficulties of future boldly. Moreover, children living with their family members specially parents and grand parents are often pampered, whereas, their counterparts living in boarding schools have to lead a strict, disciplined life and they have to follow the rules of their schools. This makes them more disciplined.

Apart from such things, when it comes to the point of learning, education is healthier in boarding schools because here, apart from knowledge, they also get to know relatively important aspects of life by being away from their home. Boarding schools bring children from different classes of the society together without any distinction in caste, creed or color. They live together and share their belongings. This develops, among the children, a feeling of love and oneness. They can easily understand the meaning and strength of ‘UNITY’.

Although boarding schools impart healthy education to the children, yet the only thing which they lack is the love and warmth of the children’s family members. They never get the opportunity to live with the parents except in their holidays. They can never understand what it is to be a part of the family. Usually when such children grow up, they forget their responsibilities towards their family.

Still the parents are sending their wards to boarding schools because in this competitive world, getting confidence is more important for the children than shouldering the responsibilities of their parents. In short, it would not be wrong to say that in this fast moving world, joining boarding school is the best option for growing with the time.

An Angel of Mercy

Posted by: jessicajames on: October 22, 2008

Mother Teresa, a Roman Catholic nun, was born as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on Aug 27, 1910, in an Albanian family. When she was 18, she entered the order on the sisters of Our Lady of Loreto in Ireland, which ran missionary schools in India. She was trained in Dublin and Darjeeling and took the name of Teresa from Saint Therese of Lisiuex, the patron saint of foreign missionaries.

The frail, tiny, soft spoken, always clad in white sari, Mother extended her tender compassionate hands to those who were rejected by the society; for example, she lifted abandoned, unwanted babies from the street and gutters to nurse them in her home. She provided succor and solace to the poor, the disabled, and handicapped and to those afflicted by incurable diseases, like AIDS, leprosy, etc. She used to wash their stinking wounds with tenderness and a feeling of warmth. She lifted up and cared for the dying destitute so that they might die in peace and with a sense of dignity, without the least consideration of caste, religion or ideology.

Mother Teresa’s compassion was so universal that it transcended the barriers of territory, ideology, religion, caste and class. She loved and cherished every person as her sister and brother, particularly the poor, destitute, disabled and dying people. Mother set up homes for the dying, victims of AIDS, leprosy patients, orphans and the unwanted people all over the world. Today, modern information technology has brought minds together, but has failed to bring the hearts together. Mother did this job wonderfully. She loved Jesus intensely and constantly communed with him in prayers. For Mother Teresa, each suffering child, each orphan, each destitute and each leper was Jesus Christ himself. She said,” When I wash a leper’s wounds, I feel I am nursing the Lord himself.” We live in a society where status is of most important value. But for Mother Teresa, humanity was most important. Perhaps no other person in the history of the world has received as many honors and awards, both national and international, as the Nobel Peace Laureate Mother Teresa.

In her speech at the time of accepting the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, Mother Teresa had said, “It is not enough for us to say that I love God but I don’t love my neighbors. How can you love God when you don’t see him, if you do not love your neighbor whom you see, whom you touch and with whom you live?”

Let us join the millions all over the world in thanking God for gracing the world with such a precious gem of humanity. Time flows on but saints never die! Mother’s mission lives on. May her saintly life inspire and keep alive her mission in the years to come.

Here are some quotes of Mother Teresa which can inspire us a lot.

“Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.”

“I do not pray for success, I ask for faithfulness.”

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless”

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”

“Good works are links that form a chain of love.”

“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.”

A perfect figure can crack the mirror

Posted by: jessicajames on: October 1, 2008

“Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” This is a popular phrase which is being used in our society every now and then. Although many of us talk about the artificiality of outer beauty, people say that it is only the inner beauty of a person that matters, however , most of us know that in this modernized era, it’s the outer appearance that dominates in the society. Women have a desire of getting a beautiful, well shaped and perfect figure. People keep on looking for the ways of getting a well groomed personality. Several types of exercising equipments, health drinks as well as pills are used by most of the people to turn their dream of a perfect body into reality. But the best way to get a perfect figure is proper diet planning as well as exercising.

Healthy diet is always essential for getting a well shaped body. Creating your diet plan according to daily routine and then implementing on it everyday is highly important for all the figure conscious people. A standard diet plan which can be applied by any one for getting a perfect shaped figure is mentioned below.

7:00 A.M:  Start your day with a glass of fresh water and after that a cup of tea or coffee so as to energize yourself early in the morning.

8:30- 9:00 A.M: Its time to have some frayed carrots with a tint of tangy lemon juice in it.

11:00-11:30 A.M: Move ahead for a fruit. It can be anything like an apple, a kiwi or a bowl full of grapes.

1:00- 1:30 P.M: It is lunch time now. You can have some fish or boiled meat along with some slices of grained bread and almost 10 grams of butter.

3:30- 4:00 P.M: You can have a boiled egg along with some cheese or cream.

6:00-6:30 P.M: Vegetable salad would be ideal for this time. It can be made of healthy vegetables like cabbage, beat, peas, carrots etc. Add some amount of salt and lemon juice to add a tangy flavor.

8:00- 8:30 P.M: A bowl full of healthy soup. It can be anything like a chicken soup, a sweet corn soup etc.

This diet plan can be helpful; however, it is always advised by health experts to consult a doctor before applying a diet plan on daily life.

Honey, Take Care of your Money

Posted by: jessicajames on: October 15, 2008

It is rightly said “Money is good for nothing unless you know the value of it by experience.”

I was truly addicted to gambling some year ago. For me, gambling was far beyond the activity of fun. I used to be in front of my highly adorable PC (that too because of gambling) almost 24/7. Although I was captivated by gambling, I was not a good player. I just used to bet and bet no matter I lose or win. Rules and strategies of the games were far away from my concentration. I never even bothered to know how much amount of money I lost everyday on gambling. May be it was due to my ignorance about the value of money. I never cared that how much of hard work and efforts my father had to make to earn, and to give me all the luxuries of life. I never bothered to make my career and enter into any esteemed profession. I wanted to become billionaire overnight and that too by gambling (as for me it was an easy way to get rich). I was unaware what is going on in the life of my siblings and friends. Blackjack, video poker and Black gammon were my family and friends.

Almost everyone was worried about my gambling addiction except me. However, through the lesson taught by my father, I soon got cured from the serious addiction of gambling and not only that; I also got to know the real value of money. He blocked my credit cards, stopped giving me money for any purpose and totally ignored me for almost 1 month. My condition was more or less like a beggar and on top of that, everybody’s ignorance towards me made feel like a stranger in my own house. One day I found a penny lying on the bed of my dad, and believe me friends, I felt like I have found a lost treasure. As the result of my father’s lesson, I realized the true worth of that single penny. I went to my father, gave him the penny and apologized about my irresponsible and reckless attitude. Tears dropped from my fathers eyes; he grabbed me tightly and loved me like anything.

Today I am a successful person, working as a finance manager (yes that’s true) in a reputed company. Thanks to my dad who saved my life by making me understand the true worth of money.

So if anyone of you is running on the same track on which I used to run, hold yourself and understand the value of money before it gets too late.

Music- The way into the secret places of soul

Posted by: jessicajames on: October 17, 2008

“If music be the food for the soul, play on, let me have ample of it.”

Music acts as a balm to our bruised hearts on one hand and it ignites our imagination on the other. Latest scientific researches have revealed that plants too respond to music and that music acts as a catalyst in their growth. (Click here here to know more about it)

In this world, where everybody is busy doing their own work, people have some what stopped caring about music. People seemed to have lost the sense of enjoyment. Therefore, there is a great need to emphasize on the importance of fun in today’s life. One of the philosophers has remarked

                              “Is nothing done

                               Anymore for fun

                               Under the sun?”

Someone is truly a blessed if he has a sense for music. It has been found that one who can play any kind of musical instruments is generally a happy man and has less of anxiety. It is said that a writer should never write under compulsion. Likewise, a musician should always play music when he feels like and not under compulsion. A philosopher has observed, “When a lute player plays music for himself, he has no anxiety.”

Music is in the chirping of the birds, in the waves of the ocean breaking against the shore, in the rustling of the leaves and in the brook that babbles by.

Music has occupied an important place in our society since time immemorial and it can never pass into oblivion. There is music in everybody’s heart and if you have not experienced the thrill of it, you’ve missed something divine. Search within yourself and you’ll find yourself dancing to your own tune!!! Terrorism and Crime

Posted by: jessicajames on: October 18, 2008

In the present world, there are circumstances when very often things turn quite contrary to what they actually ought to be. In the olden times, people were contented with whatever they had, but the present era has been spawning such people who are no more humans, but have turned into ‘butchers’. Yes, I am talking about terrorists.

Today, people are slaughtering one another for petty matters. For the terrorists, humanity, generosity, kindness and neutral love seem to be burned deep inside the earth. Today, the masses are being ruthlessly massacred by extremist and terrorists.

One of the major causes for the rise of heinous crimes and terrorism is politics, which leads to mayhem and wars. Naturally, those who lose their near and dear ones want to take revenge at any cost which promotes terrorism. So, in the heat of fury and rage, they resort to such things as bombarding, killing, looting, plundering, etc. These people and their lives become uncertain. Whatever may be the cause of such acts, the main losers are the people. Apart from this, the nation’s progress also gets a  jerk.

Today, the foreign policies of some powerful nations also threaten the peace of the world. They dictate terms to the weak nations who can do nothing but reluctantly obey the orders of the dominating ones.

Who can forget the horrifying act of the terrorists, which led to the aerial attack on famous building, The World Trade Centre of U.S.A on 11th Sep? It was reduced to ashes and plenty of people were killed inside it (click here to know more about it).

Another such incident that shocked the people of the entire world was the atom bomb explosion on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the World War ll. The atom bomb, which was used by America, was so powerful that it swept away the lives of millions, and even today, its adverse effects can be seen (For more information, click here).

Terrorism has grown steadily over the past few years and today, no one’s life is certain. People sitting comfortably in their houses could be reduced to dead bodies in few seconds. None of us wish to be hacked like this.

Shakespeare had said,” It seems to be most strange that man fears from death, although death is inevitable and it would come when it has to.” It is very true that our life cycle has been designed by God and it will come to an end one day in one or the other way. But natural death is the common desire of today’s people. However, with the increasing crime and terrorism, it is becoming next to impossible.

So, to put to an end to terrorism, we must face it boldly and do all that we can to eliminate the causes that provoke terrorism. Let us make our world beautiful once again and a much better place to live in.

‘Love’ is all………

Posted by: jessicajames on: October 21, 2008

Love is a valuable treasure that comes without any price tag and it cannot be measured. He, who gets this wonderful and eternal gift in life, longs for nothing more than it. So get up and look around yourself, there would be some hands ready to hold you and to make you feel the warmth and splendor of love. As it is truly said that “ Someone some where is made for you.”

“Love feels no burden, thinks nothing of trouble, attempts what is above its strength, pleads no excuse of impossibility…It is therefore able to undertake all things, and it completes many things, and warrants them to take effect, where he who does not love would faint and lie down. Love is watchful and sleeping, slumbered not. Though weary, it is not tired; though pressed, it is not straitened; though alarmed, it is not confounded…”

It seems to be a simple word of four alphabets. But those who haverealized , know its miraculous healing powers. Someone has truly said that “Love can be defined by not how many times we touch each other, but how many times we reach each other, feel for each other.”

Love is essential for leading a harmonious life. It has the ability to change one’s entire attitude. Love has the strength to turn good into the ‘best’ or cruel into most kind and humble. Above all, it makes life complete by making one achieve what one desires. Rabindra Nath Tagore has remarked “Love adorns itself; it seeks to prove inward joy by outward beauty.”

Love sweetly changes the whole atmosphere with its mystic powers. Wherever it enters it spreads the fragrance of its myriad previous qualities. Everyone feels its fragrance one day or the other. Love is the ultimate destination of life. It has been remarked by an author that

“Love is not a thing to understand

Love is not a thing to feel

Love is not a thing to give and receive.
Love is a thing only to become
And eternally be. “

Make up in just five minutes!!!!!!!

Posted by: jessicajames on: December 23, 2008

I was rushing from office little bit early as it was my best friend’s birth day party. I had promised her to reach on time without fail. The party was supposed to start at 6:30. However, it was already 6:00 clock and I was still sitting at office trying to wind up my work. I managed to leave office at 6:05 and reached home by 6:20. Although, my friend was living just in front of my house, I couldn’t make it to reach on time. It happened because earlier I was in a habit of spending a lot of time on facial make-up. I used to take at least half an hour for wearing a casual make up for any small occasion.

There would be many other ladies who take hours to do a normal make up. They are not aware of the tricks and techniques which could help to do make up very easily without spending much time. For all such ladies, here are the steps which could help a lot to do a facial make-up in just five minutes.

Step1- Nourish your face by applying some amount of moisturizer and massage it all over the face and neck.

Step2- With the help of a foundation brush, apply and blend foundation keeping in mind your skin tone.

Step 3- Use powder blush which is easy to apply and blend.

Step 4- Keeping in mind the color of your dress; apply some strokes of eye shadow over the eyelid. Use a highlighter if you want it to look more emphasized.

Step 5- Next is the eyeliner. Apply it just on the outer corner of the eyes as it takes less time and the chances of getting messed also reduce.

Step 6- After the eyeliner, the next thing you need to concentrate on is your lips. Select a lip color which compliments your eye shadow. Apply lip color starting from the centre. Use lip brush for this at it makes the work easy and fast as well.

Step 7- Apply some strokes of loose powder on the T-Zone and nose.

It’s done!!! You are ready to be a beautiful part of any casual party even without spending a lot of time on facial make up.
